Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is an organically bound form of sulphur in which two methyl groups are linked to a sulphur atom. This makes MSM a supplier of sulphur as well as of methyl groups. Together with calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium and phosphor, sulphur belongs to the

macro minerals, minerals that the body needs large amounts of on a daily basis. In spite of this,

it is one of the most underrated minerals. There still is no RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance)

for sulphur. Bathing in sulphur-rich hot springs, often of volcanic origin, was already in ancient times

a popular activity because of the many health promoting effects. Many modern health resorts

also appear to use water rich in sulphur connections. MSM has a very low molecular weight and is therefore easily absorbed by the skin. Sulphur can be found in food, but not in significant amounts; most of it is lost during food preparation. As we grow older it becomes more important to replenish the amount of sulphur in the body.

Sulphur from MSM is part of important amino acids and of almost all protein. Collagen synthesis is very much dependent on sufficient amounts of sulphur. Sulphur maintains the disulfide bridges, which give structure and elasticity to tissue. That is also why MSM is beneficial for the connective tissue of the skin and the protection of the skin against aging. Sulphur bridges promote flexible

cell membranes allowing the transport proteins to do their job properly. MSM enhances the proper permeability of cell membranes.
MSM helps to maintain muscles and joints supple. It promotes the buffering function of cartilage. Additional sulphur from MSM also supports the cleansing of the liver; sulphur is part of the peptides cysteine and glutathione, which are important in that process.

Most important features of MSM 1000 mg

  • Smooth and easy to swallow tablets
  • High dose: 1000 mg MSM per tablet

Take 1 to 3 tablets daily during or immediately after a meal. The dose can temporarily be increased to 4 or more tablets per day, after that a maintenance dose of 1 to 3 tablets per day is sufficient.

It is recommended to slowly build up high doses. The effect of MSM is sometimes only noticeable after a few weeks. When one starts using MSM, gastrointestinal complaints (such as stomach cramps, mild diarrhoea) can occur. These complaints are generally resolved by spreading the intake of

MSM evenly throughout the day or by decreasing the dose and slowly increasing it again.

This advice also holds when typical symptoms of a poor liver detoxification occur.

Interactions with regular medication and other natural health products may occur. Please consult an expert about this.

MSM is dependent on a number of synergists for its effect, therefore all of the other minerals need

to be present in sufficient amounts. This can be achieved by using Multi Mineral Forte.

Besides taking this product it is also recommended to follow a healthy diet, as well as taking a

basic supplementation of Multi Vital Forte, Vitamin C-1000 Ascorbate Complex and Omega-3 liquid (or Omega-3 capsules).
