Resveratrol Select™ is designed to help support cellular health and defence with potent amounts of two plant-based antioxidants: trans-resveratrol and quercetin. RESVERATROL is a polyphenol found naturally in grape skins, grape juice and red wine, and in foods such as peanuts, cocoa and berries. As an antioxidant, resveratrol has been studied for its ability to effectively quench free radicals and boost cellular repair. It exhibits anti-inflammatory and anti-viral activity, has been shown to improve lipid profiles, insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance, and may help to balance glucose and lipid levels. Research since the 1980s suggests resveratrol may provide cardioprotective, neuroprotective, anti-ageing and anti-obesity effects. More recently, resveratrol has been shown to inhibit the life cycle of viruses, e. g. the Epstein-Barr virus, in vitro. In addition to 225 mg of pure trans-resveratrol from Japanese knotweed (Polygonum cupidatum), Resveratrol Select™ contains 225 mg of QUERCETIN derived from the flower buds of Sophora japonica, the Japanese pagoda tree. Research suggests the synergistic blend of resveratrol and quercetin may provide even greater benefits than either compound in certain cases, notably by having a favourable influence on gut flora balance and body composition. In animal research, the combination of resveratrol plus quercetin was observed to help reverse weight gain by rebalancing the intestinal Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio associated with diet-induced obesity. In cultured human cells under hyperglycemic conditions, the addition of quercetin appeared to enhance the effects of resveratrol alone on markers of ageing.
