Coeliac & Gluten Sensitivity DNA Test
Are you allergic to gluten or sensitive? A DNA test to assess risk for coeliac disease and gluten sensitivity. Gluten is found in wheat, barley, rye and products made from grains. Some oats also contain gluten.
Description
The DNA test evaluates HLA-DQ genetic variants to assess susceptibility for gluten intolerance and risk for developing coeliac disease. Coeliac disease is triggered by the ingestion of gluten in genetically predisposed individuals and can occur at any point throughout life. If you have the genetic variants predisposing you to coeliac disease, continuous exposure to gluten might trigger it later in life.
Genetics
HLA genes are the most important genetic predictor of gluten intolerance and risk for developing coeliac disease. Up to 95% of coeliac patients carry the HLA-DQ2.5 variant whilst the minority carry HLA-DQ8 or HLA-DQ2.2.
Method
A DNA test kit is provided. Simple mouth swab DNA test.
DNA report ready in 3 – 4 weeks.
