Last year, Green People celebrated 20 years of caring for sensitive skin. A venture that grew from the need for truly natural products for one child with multiple skin allergies is now one of the UK's favourite organic skincare brand. So, what makes Green People so special?
Charlotte Vøhtz founded Green People in 1997, three years after she first started making natural skin care products for Sandra, her baby daughter. Sandra had highly sensitive skin and multiple skin allergies and would react badly to most lotions, cleansers, and sunscreens because of the harsh, synthetic chemicals in such products.
To look after her daughter's skin, Charlotte created her own organic products, and what began as a family necessity soon grew into a thriving business. Green People was founded in 1997, with the guiding principle that "product performance and ethical practice were never sacrificed for profit". This means that in addition to making the promise to never test their products on animals, Green People's products will never contain troublesome ingredients such as:
- Sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS)
- Alcohol (ethanol)
- Synthetic fragrances or colourants.
Seeing how other companies sold so-called 'natural' products containing these ingredients, Charlotte decided to do something about the lack of transparency in the skin care industry. She approached the Soil Association and, in 1999, helped to establish the first industry standards for organic beauty.
Award Winning Natural Skin Care
All Green People products contain at least 90% active natural and organic ingredients, which is still higher than industry standards. This is just one reason why Green People's products have won over 140 awards from magazines and organisations including Natural Health Magazine, Ultimate Natural Beauty Bible and The Green Parent, along with the midwife-approved TIPS awards for the Organic Babies range.
