MycoNutri UK | Functional Mushroom Supplements
MycoNutri® was established by Martin Powell, a biochemist and Chinese medicine practitioner turned mushroom author, after he found that the mycelial-biomass mushroom supplements available at the time contained low levels of key active compounds. He built the range around mushroom extracts instead, aiming to deliver a higher, more reliable concentration of active compounds than mycelium-based products typically offer. Products are manufactured in the UK to EC food standards, tested for pesticides and heavy metals, and suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
The range covers most commonly used functional mushrooms individually, including Reishi, Lion's Mane, Cordyceps, Chaga, Maitake, Shiitake and less common varieties like Zhu Ling and Wood Ear, alongside blended formulas such as PS-7 Complex (seven mushrooms in one formula) and Red Yeast Rice Complex. Many products use a dual-extraction process, combining hot-water extraction to capture polysaccharides with an ethanol extraction to capture triterpenes, since a single extraction method doesn't draw out both types of compound.
What's the difference between fruiting body extracts and mycelial-biomass mushroom products?
Fruiting body extracts are concentrated from the mature part of the mushroom, which generally contains higher levels of active compounds like beta-glucans and triterpenes. Mycelial-biomass products use the mushroom's root-like growth network, often cultivated on grain, which can dilute the concentration of active compounds with starch from the growing substrate. MycoNutri was built specifically around extract-based products for this reason.
What does "dual-extract" mean?
It refers to using two extraction methods, typically hot water and ethanol, to capture both the water-soluble compounds (such as beta-glucans) and the alcohol-soluble compounds (such as triterpenes), since neither method alone extracts both.
Which MycoNutri product combines multiple mushrooms?
PS-7 Complex blends seven mushrooms (Reishi, Chaga, Maitake, Shiitake, Oyster, Snow Fungus and Sun Agaric). The Reishi, Cordyceps & Ashwagandha KSM-66 Complex combines two mushrooms with ashwagandha in an equal-ratio formula.
