DESCRIPTION
Green tea has been consumed in China for more than 5000 years. It is derived from the same
plant as black tea. Tea leaves are lightly steamed before being dried when making green tea;
a different process is used for making black tea. This inactivates the fermentation enzymes hence
no fermentation occurs like it does in black tea. Valuable polyphenols are oxidised during the fermentation process. It is known that especially unfermented green tea has a beneficial effect
on health. Green tea is rich in catechins (certain polyphenols) such as epicatechin, gallocatechin, epigallocatechin and epigallocatechin-gallate (EGCg). EGCg is considered to be the most powerful substance in green tea. These polyphenols appear to be primarily responsible for the health promoting effects of green tea.
Green tea polyphenols protect against free radicals and support the maintenance of healthy
cells and tissues. They are also good for the liver function, especially the cleansing function of
the liver. Green tea extract supports the cardiovascular system; the green tea polyphenols are beneficial for blood pressure and it stimulates blood circulation. In addition, they help lower
the levels of cholesterol and support a proper lipid metabolism. The polyphenols in green tea
also support the pancreatic function (blood glucose levels).
Green tea extract from Bonusan is standardised at 50% polyphenols and 20% theanine. There
is much scientific interest for theanine because of the mental and physical relaxation it achieves. Theanine has a soothing effect, without causing drowsiness.
Most important characteristics of Green tea extract:
- Only non-fermented, young tea leaves naturally rich in catechins and theanine
- Contains a high amount of green tea per capsule
- Double standardisation: 50% polyphenols and 20% theanine
USE
Take 1 to 2 capsules daily, during or immediately after a meal. Preferably spread your intake
evenly throughout the day. The capsule may be opened if experiencing difficulties with swallowing.
Taking green tea can cause insomnia, restlessness and nervousness; this is caused by the caffeine
in green tea. However, the stimulating effect of green tea is significantly less than that of coffee.
A cup of green tea contains on average 50 mg caffeine, while coffee can contain up to 150 mg caffeine. Other negative influences of green tea have not been established, neither in high doses.
